Paid Preachers

I remember a Bible student coming to our dorm and saying goodbye. Any guesses on the number of preaching school students who quit after learning enough Greek to know that what they have been taught all of their lives isn’t what the scripture teaches? Most of them realize that if they taught what the scripture really says they would be without a job. Some hang in there and try to preach it after a time. Mostly they lose their job or are told to stop teaching it.

“That this is a rebellious people… Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits”. Isaiah 30:9-10

Most people have no idea that students in preaching schools get a little Bible, a little doctrine, a little training on refuting anything that is different from their particular doctrine and a whole lot of business management and speaking skills. It does make one wonder about the guys who went ahead and are preaching considering the guys who quit. Billy Graham stuck with what he was paid to do and before too long he was quoted many times as saying some very unscriptural teachings.
