Bearing Fruit or Who Does the Saving?

Recently I received an email from one who was very worried and losing sleep over their lack of ability to get other people saved. Here is my response.

You have nothing to worry about. You are not God.

1 Corinthians 3:6 “I planted. Apollos watered. But God gave the increase.”

Only God gives the increase. Only those God draws to Himself are able to be saved.

John 6:44 “No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

If you want to have a better experience consider the ground in which you are planting the Gospel.

Read the parables in Matthew 13 for information. A farmer does not spend all his time worrying about the rocky and thorny ground. He spends his time on the good ground. Spending time on good ground gives the better increase. Most have been ignoring the good ground for the last couple of decades and the good ground is going fallow. In other words spend your time teaching the people who have been the most prolific Christians of the last 2000 years. We can teach the gospel to all, but it is not a real conversion if incentives are used. Missionaries are notorious for using incentives to make their numbers look better. When the incentives are removed one finds very few of those people left to teach. However, when people see Christians being blessed by God they come to those asking about the blessings.

One other detail of the parables and the whole of scripture. Follow Christ’s example. Did He spend more time teaching personal salvation or the Kingdom of God? Do as Christ did. It works.

In Acts, Peter didn’t offer an invitation. The people were convicted by the Gospel and they asked him what they should do.
