Old vs New

Oh, but that is old testament stuff.

Really? What did Paul say about the old testament?

Romans 1:2 "Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures".
2 Timothy 3:16-17 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."

Churches that throw away the Law of God tend to acknowledge, then ignore those verses. The attitude of disregard for the older part of scripture is very prevalent among those who claim to be only new testament Christians only. The scripture teaches one to be a whole Bible Christian.

Matthew 5:17, Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.

What did Christ fulfill?

Luke 24:44 "And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me."

Christ fulfilled what was prophesied for Him to perform. Many Christians have been taught to read Matthew 5:17 as if it said, “I am not come to destroy, but to end or destroy.” The words that were actually inspired to be written are for our understanding. Don’t let someone destroy your understanding of what God wrote.
