The writers of the New Testament wrote what they meant and meant what they wrote. Spiritualizing takes away the meaning they intended. In Romans 14:14 Paul wrote the word common three times. Translators preferring to protect church doctrine wrote the word unclean. Here is what the verse actually says.
Rom 14:14 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing common of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be common, to him it is common.
The meaning is totally different than what churches teach. The verse is about food offered to idols and has nothing to do with unlcean things that are not food at all.
